Burtonwood Chargers CRLFC

The club was founded in August 2020, and held the inaugural AGM on Monday October 5th of the same year. In that meeting the committee was voted upon, the club name, and colours were also discussed by the membership and decided upon.

We play in the North West Mens League Division 5 South & East. We currently have 53 players on our open age squad roster, a total which we also expect to build on, and a number which would be the envy of many clubs within the North West region. The Chargers are very definitely here to stay, and grow!!

The coaching staff include former England ladies assistant coach, and Warrington Wolves, and Widnes Vikings Scholarship Coach Nigel Johnston. Current Wigan Warriors, and England Academy Player Jack Taylor, and experienced campaigner Graham Southern. Former England Snooker international and current Edge Hill University Lecturer, James Welsh, joins the club as our Sports Psychologist, and the team are headed by Lee Cunningham, who is returning back to his 'home' parish after a short spell away forming the Liverpool St Helens Rugby League club.
 
We are lucky to be able to call upon the experience of current Serbian national team Head Coach, Salford Red Devils Reserves Coach, and UCLAN lecturer in Elite Sports Coaching, Stu Wilkinson, as the clubs Director of Rugby. Companioning Stu in the Directors box, we also welcome the RFL's former Head of Coach Education, and British Cycling Head of Coach Education, and fellow UCLAN lecturer Dr. Vinny Webb as our Director of Strategy. I'm sure that you agree that we have put together an elite level backroom staff that would be the envy of many a pro club, but also one that can open many doors, not only for the club, but for our community at large. We want to be so much more than 'just another' rugby club ...

We are an inclusive sports club and we are currently promoting two charitable organisation's, 'One Voice Against Abuse', and 'One in 3' men's mental health peer support group. We hope that we can help as many sections of the Burtonwood & Westbrook parish community, as we possibly can.

At this point we would also like to offer an enormous Chargers thank you to our clubs major sponsors, CDX Security, Barton Cleaning Services, and Omega People, all of whom are owned by former Leigh Centurions, and Swinton Lions club Chairman John Roddy.
