Joe Purcell signs for the Chargers
We are so proud to announce the signing this week of former Wigan Warriors Academy Full Back or Half Back, Joe Purcell.

The Chargers beat off competition for Joe's signature from other established North West Mens League clubs and we are delighted that he chose to be repping the Purple, White, and Yellow in 2021.

We asked Joe about his decision to come to us, in spite of the interest from other parties, and he explained that it was the excitement generated of beginning a new challenge, and the legacies that you can create by joining a blank canvas completely new project like that we have at the Chargers. "How often do opportunities like this happen?" asked Joe, "It's your own opportunity to create a little bit of local history". Joe, who's favourite player is Cronulla Sharks, and New Zealand Half Back, Shaun Johnson, went onto to say "I can't wait to come down and meet the lads, and all of the coaches, I've heard a lot of good things about the culture, and the inclusiveness of everyone.".

So with joining a brand new club what was Joe's expectations for the oncoming 2021 season? "Honestly, I just want us to lay a platform this year that we can build from. For 44 players to gel together, get to know each other, and create combinations between us isn't going to happen over night, they form on the back of hours, and hours of training and playing together. Once we have established these relationships, then we can start to have a look at winning some games".

Welcome to the club Joe, we are so stoked to have you on board
